With the M3 I get about 300-330 miles per tank of gas. My car before this, 1999 E36 328is would get 22-23mpg average with the same commute, so not much difference. If you drive in mode 1, it shifts at 2500 rpm, so I'm sure mpg depends on how low of rpms you shift at too. I don't floor it to redline usually, I usually drive in sequential mode 5 generally shifting at 3000-3500 rpm with a couple overtake slow car in front of me manuevers on the freeway each day, and I've been getting average 19-20mpg (I just take my miles driven per tank divided by number of gallons filled up at gas station). My commute one way is 30 miles with 4 miles of that being streets. Mine is an smg II, I drive mostly highway and little traffic driving at 65-80mph depending on if there are cars in front of me, if no cars then I cruise at 80mph, and I usually have 1-2 passengers (I carpool to work) so that affects mpg a little for the worse.
